Mississippi State vs. Samford: game time, TV channel, radio, odds and more

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the Samford Bulldogs in Week 9 of the 2016 football season.

Date: October 29, 2016

Samford is a pretty good FCS team, sporting a 6-1 record. Their only loss of the year came to No. 3 Chattanooga. They’ve yet to play a FBS team.

They are a high-scoring team, and do most of their damage through the air. That would bode well considering how bad MSU’s rush defense looked against Kentucky, but MSU’s pass defense is worse statistically within the SEC.

Samford throws for a whopping 362 YPG. They only rush for 98 YPG, but score just a hair over 40 points per contest.

Mississippi State is a lot more balanced at 192 YPG passing and 203 YPG rushing. Scoring-wise, MSU is at 26.7 per game.

Defensively, Samford is pretty solid as well giving up just 23.1 PPG. They’ve done well up front, so while they might not have as highly-recruited of a D-Line as some of the other team’s State has played, our O-line will still need their best effort as they aren’t very good.

This is a game Mississippi State should win. No SEC team should ever lose to a FCS team…..but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen or that it won’t be close. Nicholls nearly upset Georgia this year. We lost to South Alabama, who isn’t a FCS team but was still a team who has recruited on a much lower profile than State.

We’ll see what happens in this game. It’s important to win as it would be embarrassing otherwise, and would ensure MSU did not lose double-digit games this season.
