Missouri suffers very tough Monday on recruiting trail

Published Jan. 25, 2016 7:21 p.m. ET

The world of recruiting is a truly wicked dichotomy. On one hand, the feelings one may have over a commitment is that is sheer and utter jubilation. Dually, losing a pledge feels akin to a proverbial kick to the stomach.

On Monday, Barry Odom and the Missouri Tigers suffered that kick to the gut with the decommitment of offensive lineman Royce Newman.

A Scout.com 4-star prospect, Newman flipped his pledge from Mizzou to Ole Miss. To make matters worse, JUCO target Breontae Matthews decided to commit to Kansas State over Odom's program.

Newman was regarded as perhaps the jewel of Missouri's current 2016 class. Matthews would've potentially come in right away and started from day one.

As it currently stands, the Tigers have only 15 pledges with less than two weeks until signing day.
