Mizzou needs to be weary of Arkansas State QB
Missouri's defense will be going up against a dynamic and talented athlete in Arkansas State dual-threat quarterback Fredi Knighten.
While only 5'11", Knighten is slippery with the ball in his hands. He rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns a season ago. Additionally, he threw for 3,277 yards and 24 touchdowns.
The contest versus a high-level SEC opponent at home surely will appeal to the Arkansas St. team. For Knighten, it's an opportunity that shouldn't be wasted.
"It's a big deal," Knighten told Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It's the home opener. It's supposed to be the largest crowd in A-State history. We're trying to break some attendance records, and it's pretty awesome to have a top 25 team, an SEC-caliber team come to our place."
Knighten struggled against Southern Cal in the 55-6 season-opening loss. He went 8-of-23 for 86 yards, and also threw two interceptions. Knighten did have some success running the football, as he led the team with 58 yards rushing on 14 attempts.
As it pertains to Missouri, the Tigers will need to try and contain Knighten in the run game. This means filling the correct gaps, being positionally sound and also tackling well.
If they can do that, it will hinder Arkansas State's offensive scheme considerably.
