MSU DC disagrees with Ezekiel Elliott on how many carries he deserved
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer agreed Monday his star running back might have had a point when he called for more carries after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan State.
Maybe 12 attempts weren't enough as the Buckeyes lost 17-14 to the Spartans on a last-second field goal.
"He has a way of making yards," Meyer said.
The man who helped craft the Spartan defense seems to disagree, however.
Mike Tressel, MSU's co-defensive coordinator, told 1130 AM radio in Detroit the Spartans were keying on Elliott and quarterback J.T. Barrett, who combined for 77 yards on 27 carries.
"They have some staple quarterback run game plays that they go to and are successful, and we really focused on taking those away," Tressel said.
With Elliott managing only 33 yards, the coach sounded satisfied with the results.
"It's hard to feel he should have got a whole bunch more," Tressel said. "It's not like, if you look at the stats, it was overly effective."
