MSU football: Why it'll be better to attend the Samford game than Texas A&M

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Many MSU fans will skip the Samford game, but I tell you it would be better to attend this weekend than go see Texas A&M on November 5th.

I’ll give you six reasons why:

1. 2:30 game is way better than an 11:00 game. You can tailgate in the Junction before and after, and the only SEC game on TV you’d be missing is Georgia vs. Florida – who cares?

2. It’s a stripe out, so having 35-40,000 fans in the stadium instead of a packed house is going to look pretty awful. Last year’s stripe out vs. Louisiana Tech was missing half the upper deck and this is likely to be worse. A bunch of vacant seats is not what the doctor order for this stroke of marketing.

    3. The team needs you there. In all seriousness, we might lose this game. Samford is a FCS team but they are 6-1 and even though we are more talented, our effort is inconsistent at best. Things aren’t good this season, but I never thought losing this game was on the table. Yet here we are.

    4. Again – crowd support will be needed so we won’t end the season with double-digit losses.

    5. Texas A&M is going to blow our doors off. You might actually see a competitive football game on Saturday, but there’s a slim possibility you’ll see one vs. the Aggies. Wouldn’t you rather see us win a game – or have a good chance to win – than see us get run over?

    6. Be in the Junction to listen to the Ultimate Cowbell Playlist just a day after it came out.

So there you have it. If you’re planning to go to both games be sure to do that. But if you’re a season ticket holder or individual ticker buyer who can’t do back-to-back weeks, go to Samford instead of A&M.
