MSU snags talented in-state defensive line prospect
Recruiting within the SEC is a nonstop cycle, taking up virtually 365 days of the year.
With competition incredibly fierce, it's imperative for local programs to put a fence around their homegrown talent -- with the hopes these prospects opt to stay close to home.
Mississippi State exercised this axiom, as it garnered the pledge of talented in-state defensive end Marquiss Spencer.
A Scout.com 3-star prospect, the Greenwood native chose the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama and Ole Miss.
Not only is it a boon for Dan Mullen and his staff to beat out two prominent programs in the SEC West, but Spencer plays at an incredibly valuable position. The defensive line play within the conference often separates itself from other regions around the country. If Mississippi State is to take the next step in becoming a top program in the SEC, it needs to be able to compete up front against other talented teams in conference play.
Getting Spencer is a nice place to start.
