Muschamp adds Robinson, Bentley to staff
As new South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp continues to fill out his staff, two familiar faces have popped up.
It was announced Tuesday that Travaris Robinson will be Muschamp's new defensive coordinator. Bobby Bentley will also join the staff as the running back's coach.
Robinson had been the defensive backs coach for Muschamp in Florida for four seasons, and then followed him over to Auburn this past year.
At 34 years of age, Robinson brings youth, enthusiasm, and an impressive track record to Columbia. He played in the NFL with the Falcons and Buccaneers, and has coached numerous big-time defensive backs as a coach (including Jalen Tabor and Vernon Hargreaves III). For all of these reasons, Robinson should be a dynamic recruiter.
Bentley is also a very interesting hire. He was the head coach at Presbyterian College for two seasons. Prior to that (and after that), Bentley had been a longtime coach at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina-- one of the top programs in the entire state.
Numerous players from this institution have featured on the collegiate level -- including former South Carolina star Marcus Lattimore. With Bentley's extensive ties to the area, he could ultimately turn out to be a massive hire from a recruiting standpoint.
