Muschamp coaching from the field this season for Auburn
Will Muschamp has no intention of hiding his intense game day face in the press box, as he recently discussed his decision to coach from the field for Auburn this season. Muschamp will rely on linebacker's coach Lance Thompson to be his defensive eye in the sky, while the team's coordinator wants to be hands on with his players.
"Lance does a good job in the box," Muschamp said according to AL.com. "He's been in the box for me before and he does a really good job of seeing blocking schemes."
Defensive line coach Rodney Garner and secondary coach Travaris Robinson will accompany Muschamp on the sideline. Muschamp takes the responsibility of coaching the linebackers with Thompson in the box above the field.
"We have everybody's eyes assigned, whether it's in the passing game, protections, run game, of what they're supposed to look at and after each series we try to review previous series and preview the next series for our players," Muschamp said. "It's an operation that everybody has got to be watching. They're not watching the ball, they're watching a point of attack, where their eyes need to be."
Head coach Gus Malzahn has his own strategy, as he keeps his entire offensive staff on the sideline for game days.
