Narduzzi: Starting QB will be a game-time decision

Pitt’s first-year head coach Pat Narduzzi said that he will not disclose who will be his starting quarterback until the Panthers 8 p.m. kick off against Iowa inside the Hawkeyes' InfoCision Stadium.

On Monday, Narduzzi declared that he would decide between juniors Chad Voytik and Nate Peterman by Thursday. But, on Thursday Narduzzi audibled and said it would be a “game-time decision.”

"We might know before then [Saturday], but you guys won’t know," Narduzzi told the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette. "They’re both going to play. We’ve had a plan the last two weeks, and we’re going to have the same plan this week.”

Voytik, who threw for 2,233 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2014, entered the year as the incumbent but has struggled so far this season for the Panthers (2-0).

This year, Voytik has completed 15 of his 22 pass attempts for 104 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Peterman, a Tennessee transfer, has hit on 14 of his 21 attempts for 209 yards, one score and one INT.

"They’re both good players, and they’re both going to play," Narduzzi said. "We’ll see who starts. The other guy will come in the third series or somewhere around then and we’ll go from there. The hot guy is going to play, just like the hot guy is going to play at safety and the hot guy’s going to play at tailback.”
