Navy Football: Students get Bonus Holiday due to Upset
Navy football pulled an incredible upset over highly favored #6 Houston and delivered a bonus holiday for the student body.
Navy football isn’t known for knocking off top-10 teams. We weren’t expecting that to change today. Certainly the Midshipmen are not not expected to knock off teams with serious College Football Playoff dreams. That is exactly what happened Saturday, giving Navy football their first win over an AP Top 10 team since 1984.
The #NavyFootball victory over 6th-ranked Houston was its first win over an AP Top 10 team since beating #2 South Carolina, 38-21, in 1984.

While Lee Corso may have felt the upset coming, I’ll be the first to admit that I did not. If Corso had known that Navy would only score two rushing touchdowns, he may have also changed his mind. Instead, the Midshipmen accomplished the impressive feat as a team.
Quarterback Will North tossed two touchdown passes and the defense added one as well. While the return game wasn’t able to contribute, the kicking game did its part by adding three goals. Even if I knew this beforehand, however, I still wouldn’t have picked the upset.
Evidently the superintendent wasn’t expecting a victory either and decided to celebrate in style.
No classes Tuesday! The Supe gave the mids liberty in celebration of our win over Houston! #GoNavy

Due to the upset, Annapolis will be one crazy place to be. Naval Academy students will now get a 4 day weekend to enjoy the spoils of victory and likely engage in some serious debauchery. No shaming here, these young men and women are under a ton of stress and I couldn’t be happier for them. Jealous as I may be, these kids deserve it if anyone does.
First time this has happened since 2007 when #NavyFootball beat Notre Dame and ended the streak https://t.co/YHBRHYntoP

After seeing the tweets, I can’t help but get even more jealous. Not only did I never have a class canceled due to a football win, but this has happened twice in the last decade!
