TULSA, Okla. (AP) Navy's triple-option attack may be the perfect antidote to the fast-paced spread offenses so prevalent in college football today.
Tulsa averages 86.5 offensive plays and 36.5 points per game. Navy opponents have managed just 64.8 plays per game, due to the Midshipmen's stingy defense and their ability to keep the clock moving with the nation's second-leading rushing attack.
Tulsa (5-5, 2-4 American Conference) hosts No. 19 Navy (8-1, 6-0, No. 16 CFP) on Saturday and it can't waste possessions.
Win or lose, Navy plays Houston on Nov. 27 for the American West Division title. The Midshipmen are still in the running for the bowl spot awarded to the top Group of Five team.
