Nebraska Football Adds WR Recruit Visit To Big Weekend

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Nebraska football team just had another highly vaunted recruit to a growing list of players that are going to be visiting during the Illinois game.

Wide receiver recruit Isaiah Hodgins tweeted out Wednesday night that he will be paying an official visit to the Huskers on Saturday. Hodgins is yet another California player who Mike Riley and company hope can help form the “Calibraska” pipeline.

The Walnut Creek native is being sought by several of the Pac 12 schools that are closer to home, so the Nebraska football team has its work cut out for it in getting him to commit to the Huskers. Among the Power Five schools that have already offered are Washington State, Oregon State and Oregon.

The visit to Lincoln comes one week after he paid an official trip to the Oregon State Beavers campus. Rated as a 3-star recruit by HuskersIllustrated, the website believes Oregon and Washington State are the two teams to beat.

That was before Hodgins announced he was setting an official visit to Nebraska. The wide receiver has one more official visit set up. That one will be on October 29, when he visits the Oregon Ducks. Nebraska and Oregon have been going head to head for more recruits over the last few months and the Huskers have bragging rights after topping the Pac 12 power a few weeks back.

Hodgins isn’t even the only wide receiver recruit coming to town for the Illinois game. 5-star WR recruit Joseph Lewis has said he will be paying a return visit on October 1. The visit will be the third for Lewis, which seems to indicate at least a decent Nebraska football lean for the talented wideout.

One of the biggest recruiting tools for Riley and company have been current commits rooting on the school. Keyshawn Johnson Jr has been among the loudest of that group, usually highly active on Twitter during the Nebraska football games. He will be paying a return visit as well.

The rest of the recruits who will be visiting are Broc Bando, Chevin Calloway, Jaylon Johnson, and Jaevon McQuitty. All of these recruits are picking the right time to come see the team, as the coaching staff is whole for the first time this season. Wide receivers coach Keith Williams is returning to the sidelines after a four game suspension due to a drunk driving charge this summer.
