Nebraska Football Hosting Vaunted Linebacker Recruit This Weekend

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Nebraska football team’s game against Illinois is shaping up to be a big recruiting weekend.

Among the players who have confirmed they will be visiting this weekend is outside linebacker Rayhme Johnson. Johnson tweeted out that he had officially scheduled his visit to the Nebraska football team for Saturday.

The four star linebacker out of California is one of those recruits that is often looked at as part of the Calibraska connection. HuskersIllustrated believes the linebacker is Nebraska’s to lose, but the Huskers really do have some rather stout competition.

The Pac 12 and the region surrounding that conference are hard after Johnson, with California, Utah, UCLA , Washington and Washington State all making offers. BYU and Fresno State have also already offered him a scholarship.

The biggest competition for the Nebraska football program might be coming from the SEC. The Los Angeles native has been recruited hard by Texas A&M and was offered by the Florida Gators in July.

At the moment, the only other official visit Johnson has scheduled is a November 11 trek to Texas A&M. This isn’t a recruit that is likely to announce his school choice after the weekend. Most people believe his recruitment will go well into December.

Still, if the Huskers can win big on Saturday and improve to 5-0, Mike Riley and company might make some major inroads. As has been the case for other big recruiting weekends, there will be a couple of Nebraska football commits who will be selling the linebacker on the program.
