Nebraska Vs Fresno State Third Quarter Recap

The momentum shifted swiftly back in Nebraska’s favor at the beginning of the quarter as the Huskers’ defense chased Chason Virgil relentlessly.

The big news of the third quarter was that Nebraska came out of the half looking like they just wanted to make sure they put the game away. After forcing Fresno to go three and out, Tommy Armstrong drove the team down the field.

The drive was in fact, the Tommy Armstrong show as he ripped off some nice passes on the run and capped the Huskers first drive with a 9-yard touchdown. However, the momentum seemed to swing back the other way, after the Huskers couldn’t get a first down in their second possession.

Ross Dzuris, who has been getting pretty good penetration for most of the night, stopped Fresno State before they could really get going with a sack that forced a punt. That play was rather big considering Fresno got to start the drive near midfield after the Huskers committed an interfering with the returner penalty that gave the Bulldogs an extra 15 yards.

Unfortunately, Nebraska couldn’t get on track, mainly because it looked like it was playing to keep the 11 point lead, rather than add to it. It didn’t help that Dylan Utter was called for unsportsmanlike conduct on 2nd and short that made the down and distance 3rd and very long. the Huskers had to punt but Fresno couldn’t capitalize.

Why couldn’t they capitalize? Because on 3rd and long, Chason Virgil threw about a 15 yard in that hit the receiver in the hands, bounced off them and into the waiting arms of Kieron Williams, who has had himself a game.

The third quarter came to a close with the Huskers leading 21-10. This isn’t the domination I hoped for, but it’s still the first game.
