Nevada's kick returner even confused the refs on this accidental safety
In a Saturday filled with on-field confusion, Nevada’s Ahki Muhammad joined the ranks of those who wish they had a do-over.
Thinking he was taking a knee for a touchback, Muhammad actually cost his team two points when the officials correctly – although somewhat awkwardly – awarded Notre Dame a safety. That’s because he crossed the goal line before stepping back into the end zone when he took the knee.
Whoops. But Muhhamad wasn’t alone in his misery.
Earlier on Saturday, Clemson’s Ray-Ray McCloud cost his team an easy TD when he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line on a long punt return. And then the officials cost Oklahoma State a win with a rules mistake that allowed Central Michigan to pull of a last-second Hail Mary and lateral for the game-winning TD.
At least Muhammad can take some solace in the fact that his Wolf Pack quickly fell hopelessly behind the Fighting Irish on Saturday.
OOOF.
