NFL scouts were paid to be this wrong about J.J. Watt and Drew Brees
When two players have accomplished as much as J.J. Watt and Drew Brees, it’s fun to look back at what professional scouts once saw as their shortcomings.
The New Orleans Saints QB and Houston Texans defensive end did just that on Thursday morning when they visited "The Dan Patrick Show,” reading actual critiques of their play before their respective NFL drafts.
For Brees, there were knocks on his height and accuracy/touch:
Even years later, neither player seems willing to take the shots sitting down, quipping and qualifying where they feel necessary. Listen to Brees find silver lining in a scout's accusation that he drew “unneccesary punishment" instead of dodging defenders.
But arguably the biggest whiff of them all is this prediction about the former Defensive Player of the Year: “He won’t ever be a stud pass rusher,” Watt reads.
You win some, you lose some.
