Nittany Lions defense preparing to change gears with return to Big Ten play
A week after dealing with the triple-option offense of Army, Penn State's highly touted defense has a much different challenge coming to town with Indiana.
The Hoosiers operate out of a shotgun and spread the field, stretching defenses from sideline to sideline while also pushing the tempo when they can.
"It's very contrasting styles," linebacker Ben Kline said Tuesday. "I think anytime you play one of the service academies, it's a tough, hard-fought game. None of us have played that since Navy in 2012, so it's really different. It's just a total change of pace, it changes all your calls, changes everything."
The Hoosiers are known for having a high-powered passing game under coach Kevin Wilson, but they also have balance with a veteran offensive line and running back Jordan Howard, who is hoping to be able to bounce back from an ankle injury that limited him against Ohio State last week.
"Now you move to Indiana who runs a very different type of scheme and they have great players, great coaches, and they run they run (their offense) really well," Kline said. "So it’s going to be an awesome challenge, and I think that we are looking forward to it. It's a real change of pace, and it's going to keep us on our toes and we're excited."
