No. 18 Auburn DB Joshua Holsey out for season with torn ACL

Published Sep. 15, 2015 6:05 p.m. ET

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn defensive back Joshua Holsey tore his left ACL for the second time and is out for the season.

Tigers coach Gus Malzahn announced the extent of Holsey's injury Tuesday. The senior started at nickel back for the 18th-ranked Tigers against Jacksonville State but was injured early in the game.

Holsey also tore his left ACL in a noncontact injury late in Auburn's final practice before the Texas A&M game in 2013.

He has 19 career starts at cornerback or safety.

Holsey didn't take a redshirt year, but Malzahn says Holsey is "struggling right now" and hasn't talked to him about possibly returning.

Malzahn says other injured players like right tackle Avery Young, defensive end Carl Lawson and safety Tray Matthews are "day to day."
