No more little brother: Harbaugh calls MSU 'biggest guy on the block'

Jim Harbaugh went the honest route when assessing the state of Michigan's rivalry with Michigan State in front of a group of Detroit-area high school coaches attending a clinic in the Motor City.

"Michigan State's the biggest guy on the block," Harbaugh said, per MLive.com.

It's a far cry from the days when Wolverines running back Mike Hart identified MSU as Michigan's 'little brother', but then things have changed very much since 2007 when Hart delivered that dig at the Spartans.

Michigan had won six in a row at that time, but Michigan State has won six of seven against Michigan since, including double-digit victories in 2008, '10, '11, '13 and '14. Of course, the Wolverines still lead the all-time series 68-34-5.

Under head coach Mark Dantonio, the Spartans have also made great gains in recruiting both in Michigan and Ohio, Dantonio's home state and long a place Michigan has gone to get great players.

Harbaugh appealed to the coaches in attendance for help reversing recent trends.

"We want Detroit players at the University of Michigan," he said. "We've got a great history of Detroit players (at Michigan), and not just for football, we want them to get an education. We want to educate your players and we want them to succeed. not just with football but as great people."
