No UCLA players drafted on first day of NFL draft
UCLA's streak of having a player drafted in the first round of the NFL draft ends at two.
You'll recall that defensive end Datone Jones was taken 26th overall by the Green Bay Packers in 2013 and linebacker Anthony Barr was taken ninth overall by the Minnesota Vikings last year, respectively.
While the Pac-12 enjoyed its biggest year ever in terms of first-round selections on Thursday, no UCLA player can say they helped the conference step up its game on the first day of the NFL draft. Quarterback Brett Hundley, linebacker Eric Kendricks and defensive end Owa Odighizuwa will have to wait and see if their names will be called sometime this weekend.
Goe Joe Bruin points out that some pundits felt the trio were worthy of a first-round selection, but it wasn't an overwhelming thought.
Sure, they each have weaknesses and wrinkles to iron out to be effective NFL-caliber players, but they've also shown enough to prove they belong on an NFL roster.
