No winner yet in Michigan State RB derby
Who will take over for two-time 1,000-yard rusher Jeremy Langford? The two main contenders had solid showings in the Michigan State spring game, but head coach Mark Dantonio did not give away who might be in the lead when preseason camp begins.
Madre London, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound redshirt freshman, led the way with 70 yards on nine carries for the Green squad. That included a 50-yard burst.
Gerald Holmes, a 6-foot, 218-pound sophomore, picked up 48 yards on 11 carries for the White team.
"I was impressed with Gerald Holmes ability to tough it out," Dantonio told reporters in East Lansing after the spring game. "He got some tough yards, very tough yards. I thought he ran pretty effectively. Madre London had the big run and showed some good speed. He played like a freshman a little bit in there at times, but he's going to be an exciting back to watch as we go forward."
The pair of competitors is expected to become a trio this fall when highly regarded prospect L.J. Scott of Hubbard, Ohio, joins the fray.
