Notre Dame fires defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder after 1-3 start
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly has fired defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder after the Irish's Saturday loss to Duke.
Notre Dame has allowed an average of 505 yards per game to Power-5 opponents this season, losing all three contests to start the season 1-3.
Against Texas in Week 1, Notre Dame allowed 517 yards, a Week 3 game with Michigan State saw the Spartans amass 501 yards and Duke put up 498 Saturday in a 38-35 win at Notre Dame.
Fans at the stadium were heard chanting "Fire VanGorder" after the loss.
VanGorder was previously the DC for Georgia, the Atlanta Falcons, and Auburn before taking the Notre Dame job in 2014.
Brian Kelly announces Brian VanGorder has been relieved of his duties. Greg Hudson assumes responsibilities.
