Notre Dame keeping up with the Joneses

Published Jun. 25, 2015 11:47 a.m. ET

Keeping up with the Joneses just got a little easier in South Bend, especially after Notre Dame received a commitment from Jamir Jones, the brother of Fighting Irish defensive tackle Jarron Jones.

Jamir Jones is a 6-4, 210-pound three-star class of 2016 outside linebacker that is rated as the No. 2 prospect in New York by Rivals.

Jones had received offers from several major colleges, but had his heart set on going to Notre Dame.

“They were always one of the choices, but there's no better place,'' Jones told the Democrat & Chronicle. “There's nothing better than being a student and a Notre Dame football player.''

The athletic Jones played defensive end and outside linebacker at Aquinas High School last season and had three sacks and a forced fumble.

The versatile Jones even played emergency quarterback in 2014 after the team’s starting QB broke his wrist, and managed to throw for 715 yards and six touchdowns.

"I just felt I could play numerous positions,'' Jones told the Democrat & Chronicle. "Even in high school, it doesn't matter what position I play. I love the game so much, I'm going to do my best and have fun.''
