Notre Dame suffered a sizable blow to its offense Wednesday when gifted tight end Alize Jones was declared out for the 2016 season.

The sophomore, arguably their most touted recruit in the 2015 class, acknowledged on Twitter that it was due to academics.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Jones had 13 catches for 190 years last season and is considered a special talent given his ball skills and ability to stretch a defense.

ND already had some holes to replace outside with big-play man Will Fuller gone to the NFL. ND does return Tyler Latua, Durham Smythe, Nic Weishar and Jacob Matuska.
