Odell Beckham Jr. Is Embarrassing the LSU Tigers

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

In his time as an LSU Tiger, Odell Beckham Jr. dominated opposing defenses, racking up 2340 yards on 143 catches. Beckham averaged 16.4 yards per catch, and scored 12 times on his way to being selected by the New York Giants with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Beckham has since gone on to be an NFL superstar, and is considered to be one of the best receivers in all of football. After he made his famous one-handed touchdown grab against the Dallas Cowboys, Odell became an instant fan-favorite. He quickly embraced his growing spotlight, and all seemed great for the former Tiger.

But then it all caught up with him. Beckham’s constant desire to be in the spotlight, his flashy celebrity lifestyle, and constant desire to show others up on the field with his celebrations are finally starting to cause him problems. Opposing players are doing everything they can to irritate him on the field, NFL media is all up in his case, and his Hollywood lifestyle has put the paparazzi in his face on a regular basis.

Odell Beckham Jr. is clearly frustrated, and he could not be handling it any worse. He consistently lets opposing players get in his head, and the result is more often than not a 15-yard penalty on the Giants. We have seen Beckham fight a kicking net, throw tantrums on the sideline, and at one point even break down crying on the Giant sideline.

He has come out and told the media that everyone is “targeting” him and that he is not “having fun anymore.” Odell has taken up his “woe is me” attitude and he’s not letting it go.

The kid is acting like a petty, selfish brat, and it’s beginning to effect his team. His prima donna lifestyle and attitude is borderline pathetic, and he’s reached a point where even his own teammates and coaches are publicly calling him out. The entire situation is embarrassing for all parties involved.

One of those parties just happens to be the LSU Tigers.

Like I said before, Beckham played his college ball at LSU, and was a very good player in his time with the Tigers. He has gone on to be one of the league’s most talented and entertaining players, and he’s a guy the university should be able to be proud of. But with his continual drama, arrogance, and bratty behaviour, the program just isn’t able to feel that way about their former receiver.

In fact, if anything, the school and its fans have the right to be embarrassed by his actions. How else should one feel when the best player from their school acts in a way Beckham does on a consistent basis?

Odell Beckham Jr. does not play for the Tigers anymore, and when people thing of him, “former LSU receiver” is not something that is often brought up. But for those of us in Louisiana, that’s what we know him as, and his actions have some of us feeling rather embarrassed of our homegrown star.
