Offseason attrition continues building at Rutgers

Published Jul. 1, 2015 5:13 p.m. ET

With defensive end Donald Bedell reportedly set to transfer Rutgers has now lost more players from its 2014 recruiting class than it has seen take the field for an official game.

NJ Advance Media reported earlier this week Bedell, a three-star recruit rated the No. 4 defensive end in New Jersey when he was a senior, joins classmates Sam Blue, Kam Lott and Jacob Kraut as players who have or will transfer. Additionally, cornerback Darion Dailey was arrested for armed robbery in May and subsequently removed from the team.

Rutgers' class of 2014 consisted of 25 players and was ranked No. 55 nationally and 10th in the Big Ten.

Lott, Kraut, and Bedell were three-star recruits while Blue and Dailey were rated two-star prospects by Scout.

On the flip side, four members of the class made their Scarlet Knights debut last year: running backs Josh Hicks and Robert Martin, long snapper Alan Lucy and cornerback Dre Boggs.

Hicks and Martin, thrust into action by injuries at the position, both showed the potential to be big-time contributors at the college level by combining to rush for 874 yards while Boggs logged four pass breakups and started one game at cornerback.
