Predictions for Ohio State in game 1.

Ohio State football will finally be here tomorrow and there is plenty of excitement to see the Buckeyes take the field against the Bowling Green falcons. Many Buckeye fans are expecting great things for the young team while others are a little more tempered in their expectations.

One of the questions for most Ohio State fans is how well the team will perform in the first game of the season with 16 new starters. I’m sure each of you has an idea how the game against the Bowling Green Falcons will play out.

Well, the Contributors of Scarlet And Game certainly have thoughts on what will happen tomorrow too. So we decided to have a roundtable discussion and share our predictions.

Our opinions are varied to say the least. Check them out and see which guy is thinking more in line with you.

Dillon Davis:  Urban Meyer spoke about the balance he hopes to find on offense. While we won’t know how truly balanced the unit is until week 3, I expect week 1 to be a good first showing in that regard. Mike Weber racks up 125 yards and a score, and J.T. hits the 250 yard mark in total offense, albeit in just over a half of football played. The secondary gives up a couple of big plays, but ultimately the defensive line makes it a nightmare for James Knapke. Bucks roll, 45-10.

Thomas Scurlock:  As Much as Urban Meyer wants the Ohio State offense to be balanced, this game is going to showcase the running trifecta of J.T. Barrett, Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel. The Slobs outweigh Bowling Green’s defensive line and Urban Meyer will order up a heavy dose of power football, at least in the first half.

For the game, the offense will end up with 500 yards, 300 on the ground and 200 through the air on big plays by Noah Brown and Austin Mack.

Defensively, the coaches will stack the box forcing the Falcons to get their production through the air. They’ll have some success early with quick passes and screens, but the unit will make the adjustments needed and shut down the Falcons in the second half.

Buckeyes look good in their first game of the 2016 season routing the Falcons 48-20.

Billy George:  Unlike previous seasons I think we’ll see Ohio State exert dominance right off the bat. I see Ohio State jumping out to a commanding three score lead in the first half, as Bowling Green struggles to find its identity with a first-year starter at QB…..56-3

Daniel Opacich:  With the new coaching staff at Bowling Green nobody is sure what kind of offensive or defensive schemes the Falcons may employ. This could could create problems for the Buckeyes with 16 new starters. Because of that, I don’t see it as a blowout but more along the line of a 28-13 Ohio State victory.

Ohio State may perform so well tomorrow for most of the game it would appear that it should be a 59-10 blowout. However mistakes by young players will probably cost the Buckeyes some points on the offensive end.

Charlie Lockhart:  I expect the defense to play well for most of the game, but blown assignments could give Bowling Green one or two easy scores. The Falcons have a quarterback who threw for over 3,000 yards two years ago, a talented wide receiver and a good running back who can make the Buckeyes pay if they make mistakes.

I think it will be a good first game for the young Ohio State football team and I am predicting something around a 49-24 victory. And coach Meyer will have some good coaching points to emphasize to his players as well heading into Game 2.
