Ohio State to join Virginia Tech in honoring shooting victims

Virginia Tech announced Thursday the Hokies will not be the only ones wearing helmet stickers to recognize the lives of two Roanoke, Va., television journalists who were killed last week in a tragic shooting.

Ohio State will also wear the stickers on their signature silver lids when the teams kick off their seasons in Blacksburg on Monday night.

“Ohio State expressed a desire to show its solidarity with Virginia Tech in remembering the vibrant lives of Alison Parker and Adam Ward,” Virginia Tech director of athletics Whit Babcock said in a statement. “Coach (Frank) Beamer and I both agreed it was a wonderful gesture on the part of (OSU AD) Gene Smith, (head coach) Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes. We hope fans of both teams join us in hopefully providing some solace to the friends, families and co-workers who continue to miss Alison and Adam."

There will be a 30-second moment of silence for Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who were shot to death by a former employee of their station, WDBJ-7, on Aug. 26 while doing a morning remote broadcast.

Ward graduated from Virginia Tech while Parker went to James Madison University.

Scholarships have been established in the names of both at their alma maters, according to the VT release
