Oklahoma. Texas Tech light up stat sheet for 1,700 yards
The final score was Oklahoma 66, Texas Tech 59 on Saturday in Lubbock. In reality, though, the game ended in a tie: Oklahoma 854, Texas Tech 854.
The Sooners and Red Raiders each ran up -- and ran up is what they did -- 854 yards of total offense, combining for 1,708 yards.
Some of the individual accomplishments:
Patrick Mahomes II completed 52 of 88 -- again, 88 -- passes for 734 yards and 5 touchdowns. Mahomes also rushed 12 times for 85 yards and two scores. It doesn't take a math genius to realize 88 plus 12 means Mahomes was involved in 100 plays!
Mahomes' 819 total yards broke the NCAA mark of Washington State's Connor Halliday, who had 751 yards in a game in 2014.
His OU counterpart Baker Mayfield, who started his college career as a Red Raider, went 27 of 36 for 545 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Each team had two receivers break the century mark and Texas Tech's Cameron Batson came up one yard shy, with 99 yards on nine grabs.
Eleven different players had a reception of more than 20 yards.
Oklahoma's Joe Mixon had 31 rushes for 263 yards and 2 TDs. He added four catches for 114 yards and 3 more scores.
Somehow, each school had to punt twice apiece.
