Old connection helped lead Wynn to Atlanta

Published May. 7, 2015 10:35 a.m. ET

As an undrafted free agent, Indiana wide receiver Shane Wynn told The Cleveland Plain Dealer he could have signed with six or more teams, including his hometown Cleveland Browns.

He chose the Atlanta Falcons, though, and the reason had to do with Ted Ginn Jr. and Terry Robiskie, a veteran NFL receiver and NFL receivers coach, respectively.

What is the connection? Ginn and Wynn both went to Cleveland Glenville High School, and Ginn played for Robiskie as a rookie with the Miami Dolphins. Robiskie is now the Falcons' receivers coach.

The two players are far apart in age, but Wynn said Ginn acted as a mentor to him when he was growing up.

"He always showed tough love to me and didn't let me do stuff,'' Wynn said. "When I was in high school, he fought me because he didn't let me do something I wanted to do.''
