Ole Miss to investigate Laremy Tunsil's claim that he was paid by football staff member
It's hard to imagine how Thursday night could have been more awkward and damaging for NFL Draft prospect Laremy Tunsil.
Just prior to the first round, a video was posted to Tunsil's Twitter account showing him smoking a bong through a gas mask. During the draft, two screenshots of alleged messages were posted on his Instagram account that appeared to show Tunsil was paid while playing for the University of Mississippi.
Tunsil later claimed that both his Twitter and Instagram accounts were hacked, but he also admitted that the man in the video was him (but that the video was old) and said that he had accepted money from a member of Ole Miss' football staff during his collegiate career.
Although publicly shamed, Tunsil was drafted 13th by the Miami Dolphins and now will turn the page and begin his NFL career. Ole Miss, which already is under NCAA investigation for possible violations in football and other sports, won't be so fortunate.
Following Tunsil's admission, the school released this statement: "The university is aware of the reports from the NFL Draft regarding Laremy Tunsil and potential NCAA violations during his time at Ole Miss. Like we do whenever an allegation is brought to our attention or a potential violation is self-discovered, we will aggressively investigate and fully cooperate with the NCAA and the SEC."
