Whenever there is coaching turnover, it's important to keep some staff continuity. Paul Chryst not only needed to keep someone for consistency but he has an up and coming star of a coach in defensive coordinator Dave Arnada.

Coach Chryst knew the importance of keeping him too according to the Omaha World Herald:

“I feel real fortunate that it worked for Dave and us to continue to have him here, Chryst said by phone from Madison, Wisconsin. The players have a ton of respect for him, and I’ve known about Dave for quite some time.”

The 38-year-old defensive coordinator is highly thought of in coaching circles and had opportunities to leave when Gary Andersen left his head coach position suddenly. It was reported that the Green Bay Packers made a run at him during the offseason.

With the NFL calling, it could be a matter of time before Arnada is running his own team. For now, he will continue guiding top defenses for the Badgers.
