Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Pittsburgh Panthers Preview
The Nittany Lions and the Panthers meet in an important game Saturday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
Penn State and Pitt will meet in a long-awaited game this Saturday. The in-state rivals have met 96 times, but haven’t played each other since 2000. The Nittany Lions hold the overall edge 50-42-4, but the Panthers won the last meeting in 2000.
Penn State opened its season last week with a 33-13 home victory over Kent State. While the score on the scoreboard was good, the Nittany Lions clearly left some points on the field and have things to work on.
New starting quarterback Trace McSorley showed some nerves and missed some throws that should have bene made. On defense, the Nittany Lions allowed Kent State to move down the field with ease, but in the end only allowed two field goals.
Pittsburgh defeated Villanova last week by a score of 28-7. Running back James Conner wasn’t asked to do much in his return from injury, but finished the game with 17 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Both Penn State and Pitt will be looking for a key non-conference win early in the season.
