Penn State star almost went to Michigan State
Penn State tackle Anthony Zettel is one of the best defensive players in the Big Ten, and Michigan State annually has one of the best defenses in the conference (if not the nation).
What if they were on the same side?
Well, he told reporters in Chicago for Big Ten Media Days it nearly happened.
"It was right there, to be honest with you," Zettel said, per the Lansing State Journal.
He cited his relationship with Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio and his staff while also saying Michigan had a shot at the West Branch, Mich., native.
A four-star recruit in the class of 2011, Zettel committed to Penn State in December of his senior year.
"I just got really good vibes from Michigan State, they came up to visit me a lot," Zettel said. "Coach Dantonio is a really down-to-Earth coach. Great guy. Obviously look at what he's done at Michigan State, success they've had there, great program."
