Perry sets record, leads Brown past Columbia 48-24
NEW YORK (AP) — EJ Perry threw for three touchdowns, ran for another and set the Brown single-season record for total offense in a 48-24 win over Columbia on Saturday, the Bears’ first Ivy League win.
Allen Smith had 113 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, one going 70 yards for a score on fourth-and-1, which put the Bears on top 28-17 at halftime.
Perry, who was 24 of 39 for 300 yards, had 334 yards of total offense, which pushed him pass the 3,196 yards piled up by head coach James Perry, who is EJ’s uncle. Perry had touchdown passes of 49, 10 and 7 yards in a 21-point third quarter. He also scored on a 2-yard run. LJ Harriott had one of the touchdowns among his six catches for 117 yards.
The Bears (2-7, 1-5) piled up 457 yards but started the scoring with a 38-yard scoop and score by Nick Messina.
The Lions (3-6, 2-4) had 427 yards but had three turnovers and a punt blocked. Josh Wainwright had seven catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns from Ty Lenhart.
