PHOTO: Banner expresses very practical reason for firing Al Golden now
In case you haven't been paying much attention to Miami football over the past couple of seasons, the Hurricanes' fan base is pretty disenchanted with coach Al Golden.
Now in his fifth season in Coral Gables, Golden is 31-22 at Miami after the Hurricanes survived Nebraska's fourth-quarter comeback to post a 36-33 overtime victory Saturday. "Fire Al Golden" banners made regular appearances over poorly attended home games as the team went 6-7 last year, and the victory over the Cornhuskers likely isn't going to quiet any of the upset faithful. The Canes were leading 33-10 in the fourth quarter only to see Nebraska erupt for 23 points in eight minutes to force overtime.
So despite a 3-0 start this season, the banners aren't going away -- no matter how much the fans have to shell out to keep them flying. The following picture was taken a few hours before Saturday's game:
It's a new strategy, for sure, and definitely a creative one.

It should be noted that Miami has four more home games this season. Can Golden outlast the fans' banner expense account? Stay tuned!
By the way, the fans aren't the only critical ones; Florida State tight ends coach Tim Brewster wondered Saturday on Twitter where all the fans were during the game.
