Pitt RB Rachid Ibrahim out for season with Achillies injury

Published Aug. 28, 2015 3:31 p.m. ET

The Pitt backfield took a hit this week as running back Rachid Ibrahim suffered an Achilles tendon injury that first-year coach Pat Narduzzi said was, “One of those freak accidents that happens.”

The injury, which occurred on Wednesday, was not a result of contact and will sideline the junior running back for a year.

“He was choked up shortly after they told him what it was and what the recovery time was,” running backs coach Andre Powell told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “That afternoon, he was in meetings and he was talking in meetings and communicating with the young kids. He’s tough, he’s a leader, and he’ll fight through it.”

In 2014, Ibrahim rushed for 263 yards on 33 carries.
