Players comforted, excited by the hiring of Kalani Sitake

Coaching changes can be difficult -- especially for a program like BYU, which is not used to staff turnover. Bronco Mendenhall had been at the helm for 11 seasons, and his departure to Virginia was unexpected.

But in choosing former player Kalani Sitake to take over, BYU made the right choice, at the very least, in terms of lessening the drastic changes that generally come with a coaching switch.

"I know the guy. I know who he is, how he does things and that's very comforting for me and for a lot of my teammates," Lui Lapuaho said of BYU's new head coach, who was officially introduced as such Monday. "It took time to gather my thoughts, but I know him. He's a big name and I've had countless brothers and cousins play for him and I've always been jealous of them, in a way."
