Potent Eagles ground game can be better

Published Apr. 29, 2015 10:00 a.m. ET

Last season, behind electric, dual-threat QB Troy Murphy and sturdy running back John Hilliman, Boston College was one of the top rushing teams in the nation.

Averaging nearly 50 attempts per game, the Eagles rushed for 3,311 yards last season, the 14th-highest total in the FBS, and reached the end zone 31 times.

However, BC Interruption's Dan Rubin feels BC can be more effective in its run game.  Rubin pointed to more diverse offensive formations as one of the primary ways to improve the rushing attack, along with being less predictable on offense.

A little help from the passing game wouldn't hurt either. In 2014, the Eagles ranked 122 out of 125 Div. I football teams with 1,681 passing yards, one spot below Georgia Tech's option-based offense. If the threat of the pass was more present, BC could open up the box more for its backs.
