Potter accounts for 5 TDs, San Jose St. beats Hawaii 42-23

HONOLULU (AP) Kenny Potter accounted for five total touchdowns, all in the first half, to lead San Jose State past Hawaii 42-23 Saturday night.

Potter completed 23 of 32 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 54 yards and two scores. Tyler Ervin ran for 114 yards and a score and added six receptions for 62 yards for San Jose State (5-6, 4-3 Mountain West).

The Spartans scored touchdowns on each of their first six drives to take a 42-7 lead midway through the third quarter. They had 344 total yards - averaging 8.6 yards per play - and were 7 of 7 on third-down conversions in the first half.

Paul Harris had 179 yards rushing and a touchdown for Hawaii (2-10, 0-8), which has lost nine in a row. Devan Stubblefield had three receptions for 101 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown.
