Michigan State picked up its quarterback for the 2016 recruiting class this week, and Messiah deWeaver does not intend to wait any longer than he has to to become a Spartan officially.

The Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne signal caller told 92.1 FM in Lansing he is on track to enroll in January then take part in winter conditioning and spring practice.

"I'll do what I can to help the team and compete," deWeaver said, via MLive.com.

He also expressed his hope to become the pied piper for a class that ranks in the top 10 nationally, echoed head coach Mark Dantonio's hope the MSU spring game can draw at least 50,000 fans this weekend and dropped a nugget about recruiting interest he got from his home-state school.

"(Ohio State) wanted me to come visit, probably would have offered me if I came on campus," deWeaver said, "but by that time, I'd told Coach Dantonio I was coming.''
