Rapid Reaction: The Syracuse football team gets embarrassed on road

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Syracuse football team isn’t headed for a bowl game this season, that’s for sure. Now the question is how many games can they win this season?

Week 6 and Week 7 were very different for the Syracuse football team. Against Notre Dame, the SU offense scored a touchdown within the first three minutes of the game. This week, it took them over 20 minutes to find the end-zone.

The offense didn’t get much better from there. This was a game for the Orange where their defense actually kept them in the game, go figure.

This was an ugly game, perhaps not as ugly as Notre Dame-NC State earlier in the day, but still ugly nonetheless.

Much was made of Hurricane Matthew and its potential impact on this football game. The Syracuse football team quickly benefited from that with a wild snap rolling into the end-zone for the first points of the game.

While the Orange didn’t have the goal line stand that they had in weeks previous. They did strip the ball short of the goal line on fourth down for the fumble recovery. This Orange defense has been the punching bag for Syracuse, but when push comes to shove this defense didn’t break.

While they didn’t break, they sure did bend. On several occasions throughout this contest, the team just took horrible angles on their tackles.

But when they had the appropriate angles they couldn’t stop anyone. Namely, Cade Carney, who rumbled for 104 yards on 29 carries.

Also completely separate from the football team, this announcing combination of Bob Rathbun and Takeo Spikes was god awful, but I digress.

It’s funny how quickly the narrative can change. At the beginning of this week, we wrote about this game being the barometer for SU’s success this season. Now after this game the question now becomes, how many games can this team win this season?

This just feels like a new low-point for this Syracuse football team. Call this prisoner of the moment, but it doesn’t seem like the Orange can win another game this season.
