RB Barry J. Sanders granted release from Stanford, will transfer
Stanford running back Barry J. Sanders has been granted his release from the Cardinal and will transfer.
Sanders, the son of the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner, will be eligible to play for any team he transfers to in 2016. He is on pace to graduate from Stanford in June.
According to The Oklahoman, Sanders' release allows him to go to any school outside of the Pac-12 conference.
Sanders' father won the '88 Heisman at Oklahoma State, leading to speculation that the younger Sanders may want to finish his career in Stillwater.
“That's definitely an option,” Sanders said of the possibility of playing at Oklahoma State, per The Oklahoman. “I have not been in contact with those guys yet, but I would like to see what they have to offer. Hopefully we can find some common ground.”
Sanders rushed for 315 yards and four touchdowns in 2015.
