RB Dre Brown tears ACL in non-contact drill

Published Apr. 20, 2015 10:34 p.m. ET

There was a lot of talk around spring practice that Dre Brown had the backup running back spot locked up. That all came screeching to an abrupt halt when news came out that he suffered a torn ACL in practice. The running back is the second skill player to suffer that injury along with star wide receiver Mike Dudek.

Coach Beckman has this to say about the tough situation per the News-Gazette:

“We found out (Friday) night about 5:30,” Illinois coach Tim Beckman said. “Tough one for that young man. He came back and practiced even more (Thursday night). It wasn’t fazing him. We felt that when he came back the next morning, it was a little bit swollen, so we were going to be precautionary.”

“An ACL (injury) is usually six months,” Beckman said, “but because this wasn’t as damaging as some of the other ACL injuries that occurred earlier in the season or (like) Dudek’s, we hope that it won’t quite be six months.”
