RB Mikale Wilbon shines in first Huskers practice with pads
Last year, Nebraska Cornhusker fans heard a little about a running back named Mikale Wilbon who won the offensive scout team MVP.
The previous staff was very high on him, but with the sweeping changes in the program, no one knew just how he would factor in during the 2015 campaign. After the first practice in pads on Tuesday night, it appears keeping him off the field won't be an option.
Wilbon has had a solid start to camp and had just made plays when he get his opportunities. Mike Riley has noticed the sharp improvement from the spring until now and mentioned it during his time with media after practice:
"Mikale, I think, has had a big jump from spring practice to today," Nebraska first-year coach Mike Riley said. "I think he's made very, very good improvement. I think that comes from him being able to utilize his ability. He has ability. We saw it in the offseason program in the winter. Then it becomes a matter of becoming comfortable enough to utilize that ability. It's exciting. He's doing well."
The only reservation I would have about jumping all aboard the Wilbon bandwagon, is that we haven't seen him light up the first team defense led by potential All-Big Ten defensive tackle Maliek Collins. If Wilbon continues to perform in his reps, he will get that opportunity very soon.
