Report: Bears lose Stidham for regular season, down to 3rd-stringer

Published Nov. 25, 2015 11:41 a.m. ET

Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham will miss the rest of the regular season with a broken bone in the back of his ankle, the school's athletic department confirmed, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Stidham sustained the injury against Okahoma State last week and limped off the field. He did not return for the start of the second half. Stidham, already dealing with a sore back suffered the previous week against Oklahoma, had taken over the starting job from Seth Russell, who required season-ending surgery to repair a broken bone in his neck.

Third-string quarterback Chris Johnson took over at Oklahoma State and threw two touchdown passes and ran in another to lead the Bears to a 45-35 victory.

Now ranked No. 7 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, Baylor's hopes of a Big 12 three-peat and playoff berth likely fall into Johnson, who would be expected to start Friday's game at No. 19 TCU.
