Report: Elliott 'is only one with a chance to be retained'

Although a new regime is in place at South Carolina, a link to the past may still stick.

According to a report from The State, new head coach Will Muschamp may keep Shawn Elliott on his staff. It also indicates that defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward and running backs coach Everette Sands will not be retained.

"[Muschamp] met with everybody [Sunday] night," said Ward. "I think from what I understand, [Elliott] is the only one who has a chance to be retained."

Holding onto Elliott may be a smart move for Muschamp. The interim head coach in the wake of Steve Spurrier's resignation, Elliott has extensive ties to the state. Not only could he ease the transition of Muschamp's from Auburn to South Carolina, but he also has a positive rapport with the current roster.

In what could be a sign to come, Elliott and Muschamp were photographed taking a picture with a potential recruit.
