Report: Kentucky reaches out to Ed Reed for coaching position

Published Feb. 8, 2016 4:40 p.m. ET

Former NFL safety Ed Reed will go down as one of the best to ever play at the position.

Prior to his long and illustrious career in the NFL, he 9-time Pro Bowler and 5-time First-Team All-NFL cut his proverbial teeth on the collegiate level with the Miami Hurricanes. Reed's defensive backs coach at the time was Mark Stoops.

Now the current head coach at Kentucky, Stoops was hoping to work with Reed once more.

Via a report from the Louisville Courier-Journal, Kentucky reached out to Reed about potentially filling the vacant defensive backs coach spot left by Derrick Ansley (who left for Alabama recently).

Reed decided to not jump at the opportunity -- instead choosing to stick with Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills as an assistant defensive backs coach.

With Reed's immense experience and knowledge as a defensive player, it won't be a surprise to see him eventually rise the coaching-ladder quite quickly.
