Report: Malik Zaire narrows transfer choices to Wisconsin and North Carolina

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:06 p.m. ET

Breaking: Notre Dame graduate transfer quarterback Malik Zaire has narrowed down his transfer choices to two.

In a possible deja vu scenario, or maybe we can call it Russell Wilson 2.0, former dual-threat Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Malik Zaire has narrowed down his transfer-school list to just two.

In a recent report, Zaire will be choosing to transfer to either the University of North Carolina or University of Wisconsin. He was granted an unconditional release from Notre Dame, meaning he was free to choose anywhere he wanted to, except Michigan State- whom the Irish play in the 2017 season.

Zaire reportedly visited the UW-Madison campus last week, and now has included Wisconsin in its final options, despite a rumor indicating Zaire would stay away from the Badgers because of the limited scholarship room next season.

247Sports insider Tom Loy had this to say regarding the possible destination of the 21-year old quarterback:

“I’ve been digging into this and from what I can gather, people connected with Wisconsin’s program are much more confident than North Carolina at this point. It’ll be interesting to watch, but pulling the trigger for the Badgers sooner rather than later wouldn’t come as a major shock to me.”

Zaire completed just 23 attempts this season as he has served as DeShone Kizer’s backup for the last two years.

It is no secret the Badgers struggled mightily at the quarterback situation this season and with Bart Houston leaving due to graduation, Zaire’s only competition would be against sophomore Alex Hornibrook.

One thing is for sure- and if you are reading this Malik, if the Badgers are able to land him, expectations will be nothing less than the College Football Playoff next season.
