Report: Penn State DC Bob Shoop not interested in Auburn job

Published Dec. 25, 2015 3:55 p.m. ET

After losing defensive coordinator Will Muschamp to South Carolina immediately following the start of the offseason, Auburn is still searching for his replacement. The Tigers have reportedly set their sights on Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop as the man for the job.

The only problem? Shoop isn't interested in leaving Happy Valley and head coach James Franklin.

According to Penn Live, Shoop has turned down multiple offers to even discuss the move to Auburn with Tiger head coach Gus Malzahn. Auburn is believed to be offering $1.5 million to its next defensive coordinator, while Shoop currently makes less than $1 million as Penn State's defensive coordinator.

This isn't the first time a SEC West team attempted to lure Shoop to the south, as LSU made him its No. 1 target after defensive coordinator John Chavis left for Texas A&M in January. Shoop helped led the Nittany Lions to the No. 10 passing defense and No. 15 overall defense in the country in 2015.

Give credit to Shoop for being loyal in the face of a significant opportunity at a pay increase, as the coordinator has served as Franklin's defensive coordinator since 2011 at Vanderbilt. As for Auburn, their search for Muschamp's replacement continues despite the massive amount of cash they have to offer.
